hand plays (object theater series)

Object theater series (18 pictures). Radiography is like a theatre: any manipulator in the hospital will tell you: the pose, the angle (…), everything is staged to turn the trauma into something explicit. Radiography, like any scientific imagery, is therefore an artifact, far from the positivist stereotypes of objective and neutral imagery! It is the anatomical theatre, the memmento mori or the vanity of our time.
Theatre also involves sets, costumes… I tried to transform puppets into masks for one’s hands, the puppet being a sort of second skin. At the beginning it was a great laboratory that allowed me to test all sorts of materials. The first Radiographers did it in their own way as soon as X-ray radiography started. At the outset, I was granted the possibility, by a great laboratory, to test all sorts of materials. Gradually I restricted my field of activity and went further by focusing on the relationships between the values, by playing with stereotypes and cultural conventions, by confronting different kinds of images (medical, folkloric, religious or even archaic…). The theatrical devices eventually suppose a specific relationship to belief. The scientist, whether he likes it or not, has always had to deal with what exceeds him (religious, divinatory, magic…).The question remains topical at a time when technology is becoming sacred.
